Portland Head Light, Maine

A lighthouse to remember.

The Portland Head Light, located along the scenic coastlines of Fort Williams Park is a historic lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Completed in 1791, it is the oldest lighthouse and a popular landmark in the state of Maine. It has a height of 70 feet.

Over the Portland harbor and Casco Bay, there are four more lighthouses towers visible from the area. Someday, I will get to see all of them.

The American Poet from Maine, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow says  - - "The rocky ledge runs far out into the sea. And on its outer point, some miles away, the lighthouse lifts its massive masonry. A pillar of fire by night, of cloud by day." This is a part of his popular poem - -  "The Lighthouse."

I chose Portland Head Light as my first lighthouse to visit in America back in 2014, because it is known as one of the most strikingly beautiful lighthouse locations in New England. I didn't see it on the most picturesque time of the day, on a sunset. However, I saw it on a gorgeous day with a big blue sky.

Romantic. Beautiful. Serene.
